Committee Update: Student and Early Career Professionals

SAVIR’s Student and Early-Career Professionals (SECP) Committee supported a virtual social opportunity for students to network beyond their respective institutions and introduce students with injury and violence research interests to SAVIR as a desirable professional organization to establish membership with. The SECP Committee has also partnered with the Science Committee to support workshop sessions that provide research guidance to students developing research proposals and/or developing research presentation skillsets. The first of these was held in November of 2021, and a second opportunity for students to receive feedback will be held in March of 2022 preceding the Annual Conference. At the Annual Conference, SECP Committee members look forward to hosting an in-person speed mentoring session to facilitate mentee-mentor relationships, as well as a virtual Meet the Editors panel discussion to give emerging professional insights into the editorial processes of peer-reviewed journals. The SECP Committee, Conference Planning Committee and SAVIR Board have partnered to identify a student speaker to speak on behalf of the next generation of injury and violence researchers in the concluding plenary.

What’s coming up?

  • Students and Early Career Professionals are invited to a social event to be held virtually Friday, March 25 to allow students to connect prior to SAVIR’s Annual Conference.
  • The Committee will also be holding a workshop session the week of March 7 to assist students with preparing presentations. If you are interested, submit an interest survey by February 12th, and participants will be notified by February 17th.
